About this Edition
Lisa Yuskavage has been collaborating with master printers at ULAE since 2001.
Her eye for color and inventive techniques have pushed the boundaries of contemporary printmaking as she continues to challenge the studio and explore imagery in a myriad of technical processes. Yuskavage describes printmaking as "the perfect medium" to experiment with material, and she finds inspiration in looking at other artists' prints and their progressive states as she constantly questions and considers every component of the print.
Merlot is an intaglio with chine-collé that was started in the summer of 2017 alongside Art Students and Bonfire. Each work went through dozens of states in the process to achieve the final result, which includes Yuskavage's signature "atmospheric layer" of color that was created by custom toning the Japanese Gampi paper before printing onto its surface.
