About the Artist
B. 1968 Jennie C. Jones creates audio collages, paintings, sculptures, and works on paper that explore the formal and conceptual junctures between modernist abstraction and black avant-garde music, particularly jazz. Jones attended Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts where she received her Masters of Fine Art degree in 1996. Prior to that she attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, receiving a Bachelors of Fine Art, with Fellowship, in 1991. She is the recipient of a 2013 Joan Mitchell Award and she attended the Rauschenberg Foundation Residency in Captiva, Florida in the Spring of 2014. Her solo exhibition, Higher Resonance, was presented at The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, in Washington, DC in 2013. Recent projects include Compilation at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, RPM (revolutions per minute) at The Glass House in New Canaan, CT, and "Constant Structure" at The Arts Club of Chicago, IL. These Mournful Shores was a site specific public outdoor sculpture consisting of a 16 ft Aeolian Harp, a mediated sound piece that was included in the first outdoor exhibition at The Clark Art Institute.
Jones lives and works in Hudson, NY. She is represented by Alexander Gray Associates. Her solo exhibition, Jennie C. Jones: Dynamics, is on view at the Guggenheim Museum February 4 - May 2, 2022.
